In collabratoration with Sonic Academy, Slate Digital created Ana 2 Ultra to show the versatility the original Ana 2 synth. With 3 wavetable oscillators, 3 samplers, and 46 filter types, ANA 2 Ultra has seemingly endless possibilities. To match a constant stream of soundpacks, we’re creating a visual universe around each one to show just how far apart these worlds can be sonically. Website

Before our team could embark on this journey, we had to understand exactly what we’d need. Ana 2 is a powerhouse of controls which resulted in the original GUI (pictured above) having over 200 controls. It was both design and implemented without a nomenclature or structured folder system to house groups of components. Navigating over 50 knobs all named ‘Kick’ was a nightmare we weren’t willing to pass on to future designers. We created an organization system that could be the starting point for all future skins. Working with Voger Design, we were able to create a PSD template with a Photoshop Action to export all 200+ designed components with just a few clicks.
Then we stripped back the GUI to nits bare components and conceptually approached each skin with targeted audiences in mind. Marketing and Strategy provided these goals:

We built a shape-based design system for modular branding. For each skin, we reimagined how the Ana 2 Ultra Bundle logo would be affected to feel more intergrated with the interface design. Our initial approach was to build the logo used on the GUI and expand the custom typography to an entire alphbet that we could use moving forward.
